The inspiration behind Ghost Pepper Ketchup
The inspiration was to essentially make something really, really hot. We pride ourselves on crafting the greatest, flavour-packed sauces around including lots of hot sauces. We even ferment our own chillies.
This sauce is no different, flavour is the primary focus. But we did put extra emphasis on heat. When you first try it, you'll be hit with a fresh fruitiness. The heat almost takes a backseat for the first few seconds. Don't underestimate it. Just like the plot in your favourite movie, the heat builds and it is ferocious. We often get asked "what's the hottest sauce you make", so this is for the people asking that question!
How hot is Ghost Pepper?
Very hot. Before now, the hottest sauce we'd made was a Habanero Ketchup - a spicy ketchup made with around 60% Habanero peppers which have a Scoville rating of 150,000 to 575,000 SHU.
The Scoville rating for Ghost Pepper? Around 800,000 - 1,200,000 SHU. So it's fair to say that making a Ghost Pepper sauce made up of 40% Ghost Pepper is experimenting with more heat than we'd ever dared play with before.
What does a Ghost Pepper sauce taste like?
Intense is probably the best way to describe our Ghost Pepper Ketchup. Both in heat and flavour. Bhut Jolokia (also known as Ghost Peppers) are known for their intense sweet, fruitiness. And you definitely get that with this sauce. After a few seconds, the raw heat begins to kick in which builds and lingers. We recommend eating with caution, this is a very hot sauce!
Where can I buy a bottle?
Ghost Pepper Ketchup is exclusively available on the Sauce Shop website. It's a limited-edition sauce so will only be around for a limited period of time.
