Working with our offset partner, Ecologi, we support a range of certified carbon reduction projects across the world. We know that our responsibility goes way beyond offsetting our emissions which is why we’re also working across our own operations and supply chain, reducing our impact as much as possible.
We Are Carbon Negative
Yep, we are double offsetting our carbon. For all the carbon we emit or contribute to as a business across scope 1, 2 and 3 we offset 2X the amount.
THE PROJECTS WE ARE SUPPORTING
PRODUCING ENERGY FROM WASTE RICE HUSKS
Currently rural India largely relies on coal power plants which are nasty CO2 emitters. This Verified Carbon Standard project involves the implementation of a 5MW biomass-based cogeneration power project, powered by waste rice husks, to meet growing electricity demand without relying on fossil fuel energy.
The project is based in Haryana, India and is estimated to produce annual reductions of 28,442 tonnes of CO2e.
CLEANER COOKSTOVES IN ZAMBIA AND GHANA
Standard cookstoves produce several greenhouse gases through the combustion of non-renewable biomass. Ecologi are supporting two cookstoves projects: the Toyola project in Ghana, and the 3 Rocks project in Zambia, to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and support local families. Both projects involve replacing carbon-intensive charcoal stoves with fuel efficient insulated ones to make cooking more sustainable.
This project is verified by the Gold Standard and the Verified Carbon Standard.
WE ARE PLANTING A TREE FOR EVERY ORDER
Alongside our offsetting mission, we're also working with Ecologi to plant trees for each and every order placed through our online store. Specifically we're planting mangrove trees in Madagascar. Mangroves are thought to sequester up to 308kg of CO2 over a 25 year lifetime, so planting these trees now is a long term commitment to the planet.
We’re working on a comprehensive Impact Report which will include a much more detailed breakdown of our impact and our activities. We aim to release this towards the end of 2021.
